Mission and Core Values

SHC strives to cultivate a Gospel-centered community for multi-age early childhood children and their families.  We do this by:

  • Sparking curiosity through exploration, imaginative play, and differentiated learning opportunities/education

  • Providing rich experiences with small group and individualized instruction (ratio is one teacher to seven students or less)

  • Fostering a foundational understanding of learning, memorizing, and applying truths derived from the Bible

  • Implementing an early childhood program that is based on God’s Word

  • Creating an engaging environment for children that nurtures social, emotional, and physical development as well as language/literacy/mathematical development and cognition

  • Blurring the lines between home and school by creating a warm, safe environment where kids are cared for holistically, hearts are tended to thoughtfully, and education is developmentally appropriate- progressing at the child’s rate

  • Partnering with parents and engaging parent/family collaboration by providing opportunities for families to serve the classroom community in varying capacities

  • Providing opportunities to engage in community by loving one another as Christ has loved, encouraging peaceful conflict resolution, developing leadership skills, serving one another, and teaching character development gleaned from Biblical truths

Community Building Opportunities

Sweetland Homeschool Community has intentionally been designed to foster community building within the early childhood classroom.  The small class size allows ample opportunity for modeling and development of Biblical character, time to pray for one another, ability to memorize Scripture together, and to learn how to love like Jesus.  Our multi-age environment facilitates opportunities for patience in working together cooperatively, encouraging leadership in learning from one another, and supporting the diverse learning journeys we are on.  We strive to make a meaningful impact on each other, and desire to make an impact on others with Christ’s love.

In addition to our time together as a classroom community, there will be other opportunities to build community as well.  Each quarter, parents/caregivers will be invited to join us for a field trip outing.  We encourage family members to come into our classroom for celebration days, and to share about their culture, job, and/or passion.  We may have people from the community come to our little school to share about what they do as well- we have had firefighters visit with the truck, and authors come share about the book they wrote, for example.
